Got Moose?

I have been in the woods since the 31st and have left the house/yard once, to go check traps with Evan. I have seen three humans other than the ones that I live with. The fuel man, a retired Warden, and a forester who works at the logging depot.

It’s very necessary for us to break up our scenery and go for a ride once or twice a week. Yesterday afternoon we packed up and got ready to head out in search of moose.

We got lucky and spotted around 20 moose. Five bulls, several cows, and a couple of cows with their calves. Most of them did NOT want their picture taken but there were a couple who stood pretty for me for a couple of minutes.

Otter tracks. Evan told me tonight that the otter will run and then slide...so those are the drag marks that you see.

There were several times that I looked back at Evan and asked if I should stop walking closer. Even though they tend to act a little numb, they intimidate me a little! I was so excited to get these shots.

It was a beautiful afternoon with my boys. It looks like we will be snowed in for today! It’s coming down hard up here in the North Woods. Hope everyone has a safe and cozy snowy Sunday!

About Rianne Ackley

I grew up in Downeast Maine but have recently relocated to the North Woods. I live in Clayton Lake where I am a stay at home Mom to two beautifully wild little boys and wife to a Maine State Game Warden. I am a lover of the simple things in life...a good book, a song, a rainy day, a bowl of white popcorn, etc. I have a slight obsession with all things food. Love cooking it, eating it, looking at it, smelling it, reading about it, etc. I am a firm believer that life is what you make it.
