“We are going ice fishing today!”
For weeks, those were the first words that came out of Jackson’s mouth the minute he woke up.
Anyone with a three year old knows that it’s not a great idea to mention a fun event hours, days, or weeks before it happens, and his Dad had let it slip!
The day finally came, and Jackson was ecstatic. It was almost impossible get him into his snow gear. He was bouncing off the walls.
Tip ups, snacks, an excited little boy and his Dad packed into the blazer and headed toward John’s Bridge.
A little hand tucked inside a big hand. A little set of boot tracks and a big set of boot tracks walked across the bridge. Jackson looked up at his Dad and said, “Daddy, we are in the North Woods”. He is very aware that our time here is quite special.
There aren’t very many three year olds who are able to say that they caught their first brook trout in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. That night, Jackson shared his 16 inch pan fried trout with his little brother, and they loved every bite!
